A lesson learnt from this cake; whilst the decor was alright, the cake was not. I had bought flour from a new supplier and that flour was a bad batch. The cake did not rise as it should and was dense. I tested the baking powder - came out fine. I retested the flour and here was the culprit. The test cake had the same outcome. I threw the remaining flour out. Interesting project! I had to write in Chinese when I cant read/write it at all! I hope my research paid off and I didn't write anything offensive! :) Plus mahjong is a game I observed when I was a child, and hanging out at my neighbours house (Mrs. Tan) in SS2 way back in the 70's! This is the first time I'm using the scroll cutter. Took numerous attempts to get it right...or at least I hope I got it right!
Coloured the fondant golden yellow and dusting it with gold edible dusting powder on it.. It gives it a nice mellow sheen. I lurrved this project! Especially when doing the tools! Decor wise - everything (box, tools...) were made from gumpaste and fondant. The tools needed abt 4 days to fully harden (or else they may not stand straight in the toolbox!). The one thing that did not harden in time *why??* was the figure "2". Wanted to place it on the cake but had to make do by placing it on the side of the box. It has been a while since I did gumpaste roses. Took a while before I got the hang of things... This box of cupcake was to be a part of a black and white hantaran from the bride to groom. I had to add just a touch of pink blush in the heart of the roses to add some depth and interest to the flowers.
